Display Energy Certificates - DEC

Display Energy Certificates, DECs, are part of the same regulations as EPCs, however where the EPC rates the "asset" the DEC measures the actual energy consumption of the building.  DECs are required to be displayed in a publc area of the building for example an entrance area.  The building is assessed annually with the aim of lowering the score until the optimum rating is achieved through rogressive improvement.

Rushton EPC offers a conclusive DEC service to all Local Authorities and governmental agencies.

* A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) shows the energy performance of a building based on the actual energy consumption.

* The purpose of a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) is to raise public awarenesss of energy use and to inform visitors to public building about the energy use of a building.

* Display Energy Certificates (DECs) and required for buildings with a total usefl floor area over 1,000m2 that are occpied in whole or part by public authorities or institutions providing public services to a large number of people.

* Private organisations, including those that may share a building witht a relevant institution, do not need to display a DEC, but may elect to do so on a voluntary basis.

* It is the responsibility of every occupier of a building affected by these Regulations to display a valied Display Energy Certificate (DEC) in a prominent place clearly visit to the public at all times.

* It is also the responsibility of the occupier to have in their poseesssion or control a valid advisory report.

* If a public building is let to a private authority, they DO NOT need to provide a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) for display within the building.

* If the whole building is let to another public authority, this will trigger a need for an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).  The rating of the Energy Performance Certficate (EPC) must also be displayed on the Display Energy Certficate (DEC).
